What is mobiPad?
Using mobiPad, you can control your entire mobile phone with the game controller of the Nintendo Wii (TM). Use it to play games or as a remote control for the media player on your S60 or UIQ device - the wireless gamepad is always an ergonomic way to interact. You can finally play standard games on touchscreen devices and no longer have to worry about buttons that are close together - and all this without buying a dedicated mobile games controller that you could not use for anything else!
Which devices does it support?
It supports all Symbian OS S60 3rd edition devices as well as all UIQ3 devices. It was tested and developed on the following devices: W950, P1i, N95
I've installed it - what now?
Turn on Bluetooth on your phone and select "Discover Wiimote" in the mobiPad options menu. Instantly press the 1 and 2 button on the Wii remote at once (or the red "sync" button inside the battery case) untill the lights start to flash and keep flashing. To be sure the Wii console does not interfear, unplug it. Once mobiPad is connected it is ready to go.
Which games are supported?
All games that are coded neatly (tested on S60 Quake, Doom Legacy, vBag,...). ;) Most of the games provide a menu for customizing the keys.
Which keys are emulated?
Depends on the OS specific version:
The mapping is designed for holding the remote crossways in two hands ('GameBoy style') with the d-pad facing to the left.
UIQ version:
A button - enter
B button - space
+ (PLUS) - keypad 3
- (MINUS) - keypad 1
home - sends app to background / brings it to front
1 - keypad 5
2 - keypad 9
directions - up down left right
power - turns off wiimote
S60 version:
A button - left function key
B button - right function key
+ (PLUS) - enter
- (MINUS) - escape
home - sends app to background / brings it to front
1 - fire/select key
2 - keypad 0 (no action in s60 UI)
directions - up down left right
power - turns off wiimote
Can i define the keys myself?
No, not in this version.
Is the Nunchuck supported?
No, not in this version.
Is the acceleration data and rumble module supported?
Not really, but you can view it in "show keys" mode. Basically, it is already implemented but we are still working on a way to map the data in a useful way... so, not in this version.
Does this make sense? The controller is much bigger than the screen!
... and human hands are bigger than both. By the way you can connect for example the Nokia N95 to a TV.
Who is behind mobiPad?
mobiPad was created by two students (Alexander Erifiu and Mario Grammer) at the University of Applied Sciences Hagenberg, Austria. It is the follow-up project of WiiConnect / WiiRider.
Why is there no java version?
It does not work with java for two reasons: 1. Keypresses cant be emulated 2. Java does not allow to establish the kind of Bluetooth connection needed.
Why is the application icon in the upper left corner?
Because i placed it there.
Why ist the Symbian, pencil, whatever key not mapped?
1. We ran out of keys on the Wiimote. 2. Some keys are problematic to games and make them crash or exit or both. (Example: The Symbian key can not be used as a key in games because he always pops up the menu)
Have you tried it with Quake? Does it work?
Yeah sure, works great on my N95.
Will there be further versions?
Developing software costs money and takes lots of time (starting at this webpage). We have chosen to distribute all our projects as freeware, but it would be great if we could cover some of our expenses (and the hundreds of hours spent). If you like this software, please donate - and there will be (many) further versions =).
